DI 23020.001 Priority Cases

Cases identified for priority handling should be developed and processed expeditiously. Development should be completed using the telephone, fax, or other electronic means of information gathering. Priority cases include:

The identification and processing of these cases is described in the following sections. For QDD processing information, see “Processing Quick Disability Determination in the Disability Determination Service” (DI 23022.000).

NOTE: Disability Determination Services (DDS) legacy systems may only identify one type of priority case when multiple priority flags are present (e.g. Suicide Risk, Terminal Illness [TERI], and PD). The disability examiner must review the certified electronic folder (CEF) or the paper modular disability folder (MDF) to ensure the case is developed and processed appropriately.
