DI 23030.001 Disability Determination Services (DDS) Procedures for Handling Threats of Suicide or Homicide

The DDS should always be alert to potential suicide or homicide situations. These situations most often occur during direct contact with a claimant (in person or by telephone) or through written correspondence (e.g., third-party reports). There are two basic suicide or homicide situations:

  • immediate threat; and

  • no immediate threat.

Handle potential suicide or homicide cases promptly and with sensitivity according to the instructions in the following sections.
