SI NY01801.002 (New Jersey) When Not To Take An Application From A Pure SSI Household

A FS application will not ordinarily be taken in an SSA office in New Jersey from a pure SSI household (as defined in POMS SI 01801.060A7) in the following situations:

  • The SSI applicant or recipient is already receiving FS either directly or as part of a FS household; unless the household is recertifying for FS.

  • The SSI applicant or recipient has applied for FS within 30 days and has not yet received a decision or has applied for FS more than 30 days and less than 60 days ago, but has been notified by the FS office that SSI applicant's or recipient's FS application is still pending.

  • The SSI applicant has been referred to SSA by the County Welfare Agency (CWA) to file an SSI application as a prerequisite for eligibility for public assistance (PA).

  • The SSI applicant is being referred to the CWA to file for public assistance.

If the applicant still wants to file with SSA, the interviewer will complete the application, but indicate that the applicant has already applied for PA or is being referred to apply for PA.
