NL 00702.111 B30 - Special Processing Instructions

A. Introduction

The MADCAP B30 is used to create a chart consisting of one or more lines of date/rate information.

B. Procedure

To establish a B30 chart, on the edit screen, cursor down to the point where the B30 is to be inserted, enter the line command “a” and press ENTER. In the blank line, enter #B30 and press ENTER. This will present a blank B30 screen. Complete fill-ins 1 through 3. Answer fill-in 4 with a “Y” if additional lines are to be added. Press ENTER and another blank B30 screen will appear for completion. Answer fill-in 4 with a “N” if that line of data is the last line of data in the B30 chart. This will establish a blank line between the B30 chart and any following text. Press ENTER and the typist will be returned to the edit screen or advance to additional screens if corresponding UTI's were added to the edit screen along with the B30.

NOTE: A fill-in 4 of “NULL” is only used when adding lines of data to an already established B30 chart.

If it becomes necessary to add new lines of data to an established B30 chart, either of the following three methods may be used.

1. Head command e

On the edit screen, enter the head command “e” (upper or lower case). Advance through the established screens by pressing ENTER. When you arrive at the B30 screen containing the data line immediately prior to the insertion data line, enter “Y” in fill-in 4 and press ENTER. This will generate a blank B30 screen to permit the entry of the additional data. When the data have been entered, press ENTER. Continue this process to enter all additional data lines.

When entering information on the blank (new) B30 screen, complete only fill-ins 1 through 3 (NULL for fill-in 4) unless one of the following applies:

  • If another data line is to be added immediately after the line just added, enter “Y” in fill-in 4. This will open another blank B30 screen.

  • If a line of data is to be added at the end of an established B30 chart, enter “N” in fill-in 4. This will end the chart and insert a blank line between the chart and any additional text. Remember, that anytime a line of data is added at the end, the “N” in fill-in 4 of the preceding data line must be changed to a “Y” or a blank line will be inserted in the chart between the two lines of data.

When all additional data have been entered, the typist may press the PF10 key to return to the work screen or continue to press ENTER to view all remaining screens.

2. Line command e

As with the head command "e", access the data line immediately prior to the new data line insertion point. To do this, on the edit screen, enter the line command “e” (enter as many as necessary) at the appropriate points and press ENTER. This will present an established B30 screen. Enter “Y” in fill-in 4 and press ENTER to bring up a blank B30 screen. Complete the fill-in prompts as appropriate.

Fill-in 4 on the new B30 screen should be left blank unless the just entered line of data will represent the last line in the B30 chart (then enter “N”) or an additional data line is to be inserted immediately after the just entered data line (then enter “Y”).

When all appropriate fill-ins have been completed, press ENTER. Depending on the number of times line command “e” was entered on the edit screen and how fill-in 4 was answered, this will either present another blank screen (“Y” was entered in fill-in 4) or present an established B30 screen (“NULL” was answered in fill-in 4 and additional insertions are necessary) which will require a new response to fill-in 4 to advance to a blank B30 screen, or end the B30 session and return the typist to the edit screen (“N” or “NULL” was answered in fill-in 4 and no additional insertions are necessary).

3. Line command a

The line command “a” can be used to add data lines at the beginning of or within an established B30 chart. On the edit screen, cursor down to the point(s) where the B30 must be added (as many as necessary may be added at one time). Enter the line command “a” as necessary and press ENTER. A blank B30 screen will appear. Complete only fill-ins 1 through 3 and press ENTER. Either another blank B30 screen will appear for completion or the typist will be returned to the edit screen.

If chronologically consecutive lines of data are to be added to an established chart, this may be done by using the line command “a” to add a single B30. Press ENTER and complete fill-in 1 through 3 as appropriate. Answer fill-in 4 with a “Y” to generate another blank B30 screen. Continue this process until the last line of data is added. Answer fill-in 4 with “NULL” and press ENTER.

The line command “a” method should not be used to add a blank line at the end of an established B30 chart. The blank line previously established at the end of the chart will separate the two lines of data. Additionally, when using the line command “a” method, fill-in 4 should never be answered with an “N”. This will insert a blank line.
