105. GENERAL
The Social Security Act provides for the payment of monthly benefits to a fully insured
person who has attained age 62 and filed an application. Under certain conditions,
benefits are payable to a disabled worker of any age.
108.A. RETIREMENT BENEFITS—GENERAL
To become entitled to retirement benefits, the worker must be at least 62 years old,
have filed an application, and have a certain number of credits for work under social
security. The enclosed publication shows how credits are earned and how many a person
needs to qualify for benefits when he retires. **
108.B. RETIREMENT BENEFITS—REDUCED
If the worker is not yet full retirement age, a written statement agreeing to accept
a reduced beneficiary is necessary. The amount of the reduction depends on the number
of months the worker is under full retirement age at the time he chooses to start
receiving benefits.
108.C. RETIREMENT BENEFITS—INCREASED AFTER FULL RETIREMENT AGE
If a person continues working past full retirement age, their benefit payment will
be increased one-twelfth of 1 percent for each month between full retirement age and
72 for which they do not receive a payment because of work.
