This table describes the major functions of the Form SS-4 process at SSA as shown
in the flowchart in this section. NOTE: The function number and name in the table corresponds to the number of the function
shown in the flowchart.

2 Data File run through Census Bureau Autocoder Program

Generates two output files:

Autocoded – Records with a valid six-digit NAICS code.

3 Autocoded files to database

(CASI) loads the Autocoded file into a database where the records accumulate until
the end of the month.

4 Clerical files to database

(CASI) loads the Clerical file into the SS-4 Automation application database for the
(DEBS) to process.

5 SS-4 Automation Application
|
DEBS technicians manually assign NAICS codes to SS-4 records
|
6 Manual coded files
|
(CASI) loads the manual coded files into a database within the month.

7 Autocoded files
|
(CASI) loads the Autocoded files into a database within the month.

8-10 Create files for Census
|
Two files are created for Census:

11-13 Transmit files
|
Transmit one file to the IRS.
