GN 01050.125 Multiple Beneficiaries/Split Jurisdiction
The subsequent entitlement of a new claimant, or the subsequent entitlement of a claimant
to another type of benefit, may require the transfer of the claims folder to another
office. This may involve the separation or combining of claims folders. Two situations
are most prevalent:
-
A.
The first situation might involve a “sole survivor” D beneficiary whose folder is maintained in the Mid-Atlantic Program Service Center
who subsequently becomes entitled to their own RSI benefit on an account serviced
by the Great Lakes Program Service Center; assuming that entitlement to both benefits
will continue, appropriate credit action will be taken against the “D” benefit so that both benefits may be issued by the Great Lakes Program Service Center
under the PIC of “A.” The folder will be transferred to the Great Lakes Program Service Center via Form
SSA-559.
-
B.
The second situation might involve a beneficiary receiving a combined “AD” benefit whose folders are maintained in the Northeastern Program Service Center,
though the “D” account number would normally be serviced by the Mid-Atlantic Program Service Center.
A claim for child disability benefits on the account of the deceased parent (D folder)
is approved. Since the account number indicates that CDB benefits will be paid by
the Mid-Atlantic Program Service Center, the Northeastern Program Service Center will
separate the “A” and “D” folders, prepare cross-reference records for the “A” and “D” folders, prepare a copy of the D award form for filing in the A folder, prepare the
CDB award against the Mid-Atlantic Program Service Center, and forward the CDB folder
to the Mid-Atlantic Program Service Center via Form SSA-559. Since the combined “AD” benefit is not disturbed, no credit action is necessary.
