A. Process

Divorce records are available from the Clerk of the District Court where the divorce was granted. The cost of copy varies. Birth, death and marriage records are available from the City or Town Clerk in the city or town where the event occurred or through the state of Maine’s Office of Vital Statistics.

2. Costs

Certified copies of birth/death/marriage/divorce documents $15.00. The cost of verifying a document is $15.00 for certified and $10.00 for non-certified. Payment must accompany request for verification.

Money order or personal check.

Please enclose a long, self-addressed, STAMPED envelope with your request.

Requests for any record, using a bank card, can be made via telephone to (207) 287-3181. Maine Vital Records does not accept credit cards or online orders. Additional certified copies of the same record requested at the same time are $6.00. A certified copy of a delayed birth certificate (BC), new BC as a result of an adoption or legitimation of registrant or amended BC for processing court ordered legal name changes is $60.00 each. Make all personal checks or money orders payable to “Treasurer of State.”
