Get additional information to verify the SSN when identifying information on the application
differs from information on the enumeration data base records.
Follow these steps to obtain identifying information:
STEP |
ACTION |
1 |
Determine if the worker ever used different dates of birth or gave a different place
of birth.
|
2 |
Request other name or variations of names (e.g., nicknames, other married surnames)
used by the worker. Get information about the worker's alleged employment in the U.S.
after 1936.
|
3 |
Request information the worker may have given on a previous application for an SSN
(e.g., names of step or foster parents instead of natural parents).
|
4 |
If appropriate, obtain an SS-5 to update the NUMIDENT and if necessary issue an SSN
card.
