GN 00302.338 Evidence of Survivor Status - Information From West German Diplomatic Office

A. General

Information may be available from the consulate which served the area in which the claimant lived if the claimant ever

  • Filed for West German Social Insurance Benefits, or

  • Filed for indemnity payment, or

  • Was asked to testify about atrocities committed by the Nazis.

B. Procedures

Take the following actions when a claimant states that he/she contacted the West German Embassy or Consulate in connection with the Holocaust:

Step Action
1 Ask the claimant where he/she lived at the time of the contact.
2 Consult the list of consulates below to determine to determine which one to contact.
3 Request authorization from the claimant to contact the consulate.
4 Request the consulate to verify that the claimant is a survivor and to certify the age shown in the consulate's record.
