When a number holder (NH) becomes entitled to a Disability Insurance Benefit (DIB)
(after 1960 for a female, after 1974 for a male), the DIB Primary Insurance Amount
(PIA) is computed as if:
-
•
The NH had attained age 62 in the first month of the waiting period or (if there is
no waiting period) in the first month for which he/she is entitled to a DIB; and
-
•
The NH had filed a Retirement Insurance Benefit (RIB) application when the DIB application
was filed.
Prior to November 1972, the DIB PIA for a male was computed as though he had reached
age 65 as of the points listed above. (See RS 00605.210 through RS 00605.535 for the full discussion of DIB computations in current entitlement.)
