NL 10602.125 Why Do Notice Improvements Take So Long?

Many factors affect the pace at which we complete improvements. Improving notices is far more involved than just rewriting notice language.

The routine communication and collaboration between SSA components is an integral, but at times lengthy process required for most notice improvement efforts.

In addition, the automation or semi–automation of most notices means that notice changes must compete with many other projects for limited programming and systems resources.

We are also modernizing the notice production environment. This modernization ties language changes to the sequence and timing of more intricate systems redesign projects. Add to all of this the nature and complexity of some of the projects that remain to be improved, and the need to obtain executive level support and additional funding for the improvements.

Today, we also routinely work together with our customers to make sure significant proposed notice changes are easy to understand. Gathering the opinions and suggestions of our beneficiaries and their advocates adds time to the process of making improvements.
