Do not determine that a pro rata share is met solely on the basis of an alleged future contribution
or an alleged future increase in contributions. Advise the claimant to report when
they begin contributing to the household expenses.

EXCEPTION: If the individual alleges a loan of ISM, see SI 00835.482.

EXAMPLE: Nicole Marchant, age 19, becomes entitled to SSI benefits. Nicole lives in their parents'
home (a household of three) and receives all their food and shelter from them. Nicole
alleges that they will start contributing toward household expenses when they receive
their SSI benefits. Nicole says that they do not plan to pay their parents for the
food and shelter they receive from their parents before Nicole actually begins receiving
their SSI checks. The claims representative instructs Nicole to notify the field office
when they start contributing to the household expenses so that their situation can
be reevaluated. In the interim, Nicole is charged with the VTR.

If Nicole alleged that they intended to repay their parents for the food and shelter
they received from them, the interviewer would develop whether Nicole had a loan of
ISM, following the procedures in SI 00835.482.
