Each request for refund sent to an individual by a carrier or intermediary advises the individual that he/she may refund the overpayment by installments. It also specifies a minimum $10 monthly amount and the number of installments required if he/she chooses to repay through installments.

If an individual informs a FO that he/she cannot comply with the installment schedule established by the carrier or the intermediary,obtain a written statement from the person as to how much can be paid per month. Forward this information to the appropriate carrier or intermediary to make the determination on whether the offer is acceptable and to notify the person accordingly.
