An RZ may be the only posteligibility contact a recipient has with SSA. Therefore, interviewers need to be alert to recipients' potential eligibility to other benefits at the time of the RZ contact.

SSI recipients must file for other benefits to which they may be entitled. Any allegations or statements made by recipients or their representative payees during the RZ interview which indicate potential entitlement to other benefits must be explored.

Interviews must explore potential eligibility for all classes of Title II benefits. If the recipient appears eligible for Title II, the interviewer must determine if the Title II application that resulted from the filing of the SSI application was properly adjudicated per GN 00204.027. If the application was properly adjudicated, but the individual appears eligible for Title II benefits now, inform the recipient that he or she must file for Title II benefits to retain eligibility for SSI benefits..

Following are examples of other benefits to which recipients may be entitled:

1. a. 

   Title II (e.g., retirement, disability, survivor, parents) benefits;

2. b. 

   Federal employment

3. c. 

   Military service;

4. d. 

   Railroad;

5. e. 

   State or local government;

6. f. 

   Union;

7. g. 

   Private employer; or

8. h. 

   Foreign government

9. i. 

   Special Veterans Benefits Title VIII.

The following are indicators for potential eligibility to Title II benefits:

1. a. 

   Insured status (KZ) diary is in the DIAR segment of a SSID;

2. b. 

   KP diary is in the DIAR segment of a SSID to indicate that one member of a couple is not receiving Title II spouses benefits

3. c. 

   Recipient is divorced or widowed and may be eligible for benefits based on divorced/deceased spouse's records;

4. d. 

   Widow(er) recipient is receiving benefits on spouse's record, is age 62 or older, and may be eligible for to retirement benefits on their own record; and

5. e. 

   Disabled children may be eligible for benefits on their parents' records if the parents are collecting benefits.
