Help SSI applicants apply for an SSN if they do not have one at the time they apply
for payments.
NOTE: Do not issue an SSN to any SSI applicant who is an illegal alien until it is determined
that the individual will be eligible for payments. See RM 10211.500. Do not issue
an SSN to an SSI ineligible spouse, parent or child who is an illegal alien because
these individuals are not entitled to benefit payments.
