RM 03256.002 Receive, Control, and Release ERISA Exceptions (4404)

A. Receive exceptions

Forward Exceptions directly to the Division of Earnings and Business Services from the Division of Data Processing Operations, OSO: this will result from one of the following two actions:

1. Claims application

These exceptions result from the automatic furnishing of SSA-L99-C1's to individuals who have applied for social security benefits.

2. Requests

These exceptions result from requests received from individuals for deferred vested rights pension information.

B. Control exceptions

  1. 1. 

    The Division of Earnings and Business Services establishes and maintains separate clerical controls for the exceptions resulting from the automatic furnishing of the SSA-L99-C1 and the exceptions resulting from individual requests.

  2. 2. 

    The Division of Earnings and Business Services controls exceptions, by DCN, for microfilm search and transcribing operations.

C. Release completed work

  1. 1. 

    Resolve exceptions on which the needed information has been transcribed. Mail out the corrected SSA-L99-C1.

  2. 2. 

    Unresolved exceptions — Forward to OITEBS, DEED with the annotation of “Unresolved ERISA exceptions,” or “UTL,” unable to locate.
