GN 01704.575 Obtaining Information Via Direct Contact

While processing totalization claims for individuals living in the United States, BETs frequently need information that could quickly be obtained by a telephone call or by a direct mail contact. When BETs become aware of instances when, in their judgment, direct contact could result in reduced processing time, they should initiate direct contact, giving preferential consideration to direct contact via the telephone.
