GN 01713.015 Coverage and Contributions Under the Belgian System

A. Introduction

Belgium’s Social Security system covers virtually all employed and self-employed persons in the private and public sectors. A worker’s occupation determines whether the worker is covered by the general system or one of the special systems.

B. Policy

Covered employees and their employers, as well as self-employed persons, are subject to compulsory contributions which are based on a percentage of the worker’s earnings.
