GN 01738.315 Determining Periods of U.S. Disability for Greek Disability Claims

A. Policy

IKA must be informed of the existence of any periods of disability established under U.S. law.

B. Procedure

Follow these instructions when preparing an initial claims package for a Greek disability claim or when responding to a request from IKA for information about a U.S. period of disability.

1. Obtain MBR

Obtain an MBR on the claimant's SSN and ascertain if a Disability Data Line (identified as DIB) is displayed.

2. DIB Data Line

Is there a DIB data line?

  • If yes, enter the month and year shown in the DDO field (Date of Disability Onset) in the “FROM” block in Part II.A.4. of Form SSA-2960-U3-GR.

  • If no, assume that no period of U.S. disability has been established.

3. Entry in the DBC Field

Is there an entry in the DBC (Disability Benefit Cessation) field of the DIB data Line?

  • If yes, enter the month and year shown in that field in the “TO” block in Part II A.4. of Form SSA-2960-U3-GR.

  • If no, enter the word “continuing” in the “TO” block in Part II A.4. of Form SSA-2960-U3-GR.
