GN 01740.005 How the Totalization Module Reviews Claims Filed in a Field Office (FO)

A. Procedure

Follow these steps for reviewing claims in the totalization module:

  • Review the file for the required applications and evidence listed in GN 01739.205GN 01739.220.

  • If the person is filing for Chilean benefits, mail the Chilean application Form CHI/USA 1 (Pension Request – Worker) or CHI/USA 2 (Survivor Pension Request) to the applicant. Instruct the applicant to complete the application form and send it directly to the appropriate Chilean agency. Refer to the guidelines in GN 01740.025 to determine the correct Chilean agency and provide a pre-addressed envelope for the applicant.

Note: The Chilean applications may be printed from the SSA Totalization Forms section of the Totalization Resource Kit.

  • Check the file for a U.S. totalization earnings record that can be sent to the Chilean agency. If one is not in file, request it from OEO following the instructions in MSOM ICERS 001.001.

  • When all required material is in file, refer to the guidelines in GN 01740.205GN 01740.210 for preparing a claims package for the Chilean agency.
