GN 01755.125 Application Process for Benefits under the Agreement with Hungary

Under the agreement with Hungary, the Social Security Administration (SSA) takes applications for both regular and Totalization benefits on behalf of Hungary. SSA also provides limited assistance in obtaining evidence required to support the claim.

The agreement modifies the insured status requirements of the Hungarian social insurance system. Under the agreement, if a worker has at least 12 months of Hungarian coverage, but not enough to receive an old-age retirement benefit, then Hungary will credit 90 days of coverage for each quarter of coverage SSA certifies.

For more information about eligibility requirements for Hungarian benefits, see GN 01755.020.
