GN 03316.145 Disclosure Without Consent for Requests for Professional Fee Information
Under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the following may be disclosed to any requester:
aggregate amounts of professional fees (not individual fees) authorized by SSA to be paid to attorneys or other persons for representing individuals before the Secretary or in the courts;
amount of payments to third parties such as vocational experts, medical experts, consultative physicians, and translators; and
information as to the number of separate cases represented by those fee totals.
IMPORTANT: information should not be disclosed that would let the requester associate information with specific persons for whom services were rendered.
EXAMPLE: Do not disclose (except to the parties involved) the fees authorized for handling one specific case, since this would disclose the identity of the attorney's client and the amount of the fee.
Send these requests to the Office of Public Disclosure, Office of the General Counsel, unless they are handled in the regions by the Regional Public Affairs office.
