GN 03345.012 Reviewing the Correction Request
When a request is referred to a second office for review, the 10-day acknowledgment period will begin again as of the date of receipt of the request in the reviewing office. If the reviewing office cannot complete the review within 10 working days, that office should send an acknowledgment to the requester explaining when SSA will complete action on the request.
The review must be completed within 30 working days of receipt of the request by the reviewing office.
1. 10 Days
If the reviewing office cannot complete review of the request within the 10-day acknowledgment period, mail acknowledgment of receipt of the request within 10 days and explain when the requester may expect completion of the action on the request.
2. 30 Days
Complete review within 30 working days of receipt of the request.
3. Delayed Date
Advise requester of new date by which action will be taken if unusual circumstances, for example, records might be in the FRC or temporarily transferred to another agency or another SSA component, preclude review within 30 days after receipt of the request.
NOTE: Reviewing components should keep a tally of such cases for the Annual Report on Privacy (see AIMS Chapter 14.05).
