GN 99002.201 Identifying Individuals Who May Want Spanish Language Applications

Unless individual specifically requests the use of Spanish language applications, it is the responsibility of the interviewer to recognize situations when an explanation of the availability of Spanish language applications is appropriate. Consider an individual to be identified as a potential user of a Spanish language application whe any of the following conditions exists:

  1. 1. 

    The individual expresses a preference for Spanish or has difficulty with English during the contact but show familiarity with Spanish, and/or

  2. 2. 

    The interview is conducted in Spanish by a bilingual interviewer.

  3. 3. 

    In subsequent claims situations, a Spanish language indicator is present on the MBR or SSR.

The criteria for identifying claimants who may want to receive Spanish notices are located in GN 99002.
