RS 02001.207 Requests for Extension of the 5-Year Rule on Temporary Transfers - U.S. Norwegian Agreement

If the employer and the employee both desire, they may request that the employee who is temporarily transferred to the other country for more than 5 years continue to be covered under the laws of the country from which he or she was sent. This request must be made before the transfer, if it is expected before the transfer that it will last for more than 5 years; and it must be agreed to by both countries. The request must be in writing and must contain the information listed in RS 02001.206. If the employer cannot provide an expected date of completion, an explanation should be given as to why assignment should be considered temporary. The request should be addressed to the agency of the country which is to extend the coverage. For the U.S., the agency is the SSA. For Norway, the agency is the National Insurance Office in Oslo.
