RS 02001.207 Requests for Extension of the 5-Year Rule on Temporary Transfers - U.S. Norwegian Agreement

If the employer and the employee both desire, they may request that the employee who is temporarily transferred to the other country for more than 5 years continue to be covered under the laws of the country from which he or she was sent. The employer must make the request before the end of the initial transfer period, if it is expected the transfer will last for more than 5 years; and both countries must agree. The request must be in writing and must contain the information listed in RS 02001.206. If the employer cannot provide an expected date of completion, the employer must provide an explanation as to why they consider the assignment temporary. The employer should address the request to the agency of the country that is to extend the coverage. For the U.S., the agency is the SSA. For Norway, the agency is the National Insurance Office in Oslo.

You may find the addresses for the above Agencies in RS 02001.206.
