DI 33526.075 Impairment Codes for Low Birth Weight and Failure to Thrive

Use the impairment codes in this section to identify Low Birth Weight (LBW) and Failure to Thrive (FTT). See the reminders in DI 33526.075C for codes with an asterisk (*).

NOTE: Low Birth Weight and Failure to Thrive does not have any listings in Part A.

A. When LBW or FTT meets or medically equals a Part B listing

C. Reminders for choosing an impairment code for LBW or FTT

  • Do not use 7649 or 7650 for a continuing disability review (CDR) continuance. [LBW is no longer considered a medically determinable impairment (MDI) after the infant attains age one.]

  • Do not use 7830 if the child has attained age three before the date of the determination. Use an impairment code in the body system that is primarily affected.
