DI 39518.020 Meal Costs at an Employee's Official Duty Station - Operating Policy

Payment Proper Under Certain Conditions

Payment for mealsor comparable reimbursement is a proper charge to SSA if:

  • Working Overtime

    the meal tickets or reimbursement are provided for employees working OT as a matter of law, regulation, or general practicein the State;

    the charge for meal costs is supported by a statement from the administrative head of the agencyor his or her designated representative;

    the statement authorizes the OT work;and

    the statement includes a reference to the applicable law,regulation or evidence of State practice under which provisions for payments for meals are made.

  • Attending Meetings

    the meals are part of a meeting; there is a specific provision in State law or published rules, regulations, or fiscal directives of the State for reimbursing an employee for meals served at his or her official station;

    the employee is required to attendthe meeting involving official business; and

    the charge for meals is supported by evidenceof the official State law or published rule, regulation, or fiscal directive.
