HI 00201.020 The Medical Insurance Plan (Part B)
The medical insurance plan, part B, provides protection against the cost of medical
and other related services, including physician's services and home health services
which are not paid for by part A. It is a voluntary plan; that is, qualified persons
must be enrolled in the plan and have the right to refuse to terminate their coverage.
Part B is financed by a monthly premium paid by the enrollees or “third parties” on their behalf (see HIIM chapter 400) and a matching amount paid from general revenues.
A separate trust fund has been established for part B receipts and disbursements.
