HI 00208.001 General Assignment of Responsibilities

The overall responsibility for the administration of title XVIII rests with the Secretary of HHS. In exercising this responsibility, the Secretary has delegated certain administrative functions to various components of the Dept. In addition, as provided by the Social Security Act, a major role in the administration of title XVIII has been given to public and private organizations.
