HI 00208.030 Role of the Division of Claims Processing, Bureau of Support Services

The responsibilities of the Division of Claims Processing, Office of Direct Reimbursement (ODR) are basically the same as those of intermediaries and carriers as outlined in HI 00208.090.

The Claims Operation Branch (COB), is that part of ODR which processes claims for those hospitals, SNF’s, and HHA’s which have elected to deal directly with CMS and process claims for provider-based physician services in governmental facilities.

Because COB is located so far from most of the providers it serves, certain functions usually handled by an intermediary (e.g., the transmission of admission and start of care data to OCRO) are handled by or with the assistance of DO’s.
