All mail received in the special envelope identified by the number “18” in the lower left corner will be hand-carried unopened directly to the Deposit Clerk in the Reconsideration Section.

There may be instances where the SMI remittance will be received in the mailroom in a different type envelope. These remittances will be entered on the Remittance Register (SSA-124) maintained in the mailroom. The remittances, together with the register, will be hand-carried to the Deposit Clerk for verification. These items will be identified on the Remittance Register as “SMIB” in the right margin.
