NL 00803.105 When to Suppress the Automated Overpayment Notice System (AONS) Notice

Procedure

Suppress the AONS notice (following instructions for notice suppression in SM 01301.675) and issue a manual notice when:

  • One of the conditions in NL 00801.010 that always requires a manual notice exists;

  • The AONS notice would be too vague or inappropriate for a specific situation;

  • Multiple inputs are necessary to post all the changes for a retroactive period;

  • An overpaid individual reports a change which results in an overpayment and offers at the same time to refund the entire overpayment amount; or

  • You plan to issue a manual notice before receipt of the SSI New Overpayment Control Listing (SM 01311.650). In this situation, when you make an input that will create an overpayment, suppress the automated notice unless you are certain an AONS notice exclusion exists.

  • Computer matching data caused an overpayment for a retroactive period with no prospective reduction of SSI payments per SI 02310.005D.3.
