TN 33 (05-11)
You do not have to translate a foreign-language document if it falls in one of the
categories listed below.
NOTE: If you question the relevancy of a document or record, resolve it by having the document
or record translated.
English is one of the languages used. See entries on the Calendar Month Translations
exhibit located in GN 00307.185.
If the certifying official adds additional comments or remarks to the document, send
it to an authorized translator for translation because the information may be material.
No translation is needed if all entries are only “yes,” “no,” or numbers, (e.g., Puerto
Rican Spanish-language tax return, etc.).
We do not require another translation when translated by:
certain Veterans Administration (VA) offices in the Philippines;
certain U.S. Foreign Service Officers and U.S. Military (outside the U.S.); or,
an official of a foreign government using his or her seal of office.
For a definition on authorized translators, see GN 00301.340.
