1. Birth, Marriage, Adoption and Death Records

Separate registers are maintained of the births of adopted children. Thus, if the individual whose birth certificate is being requested is adopted, this must be shown in the request.

b. Fee

  • Birth, Marriage and Death Certificate: Long or Short Form, 11.50 pounds (3 week processing time); 27.50 pounds for urgent requests (processed in 2 days).

  • Adoption Records: Long Form - 11.50 Pounds

Payment must be by international money order payable to “ONS.”

2. Divorce Records

The Divorce Registry recommends that all requests be sent in writing. Include the following identifying information with the request:

  • Names of both parties;

  • Date of decree;

  • Place of divorce; and

  • Case number.

Original records for persons born in what is now Northern Ireland before 1922 are maintained in Belfast. The General Register Office in Dublin contains duplicates of these records. Certificates from either source are acceptable primary evidence of age for persons born before 1922 for Social Security purposes.

Payment must be by international money order payable to “Registrar General.”

2. Divorce Records

Include the court reference number with the request for divorce records. If this number is not known, provide as much information as possible about the parties and the date and place of marriage.
