Situations may arise where a number holder (NH) has worked under the social security system of more than one foreign country with which the United States has an agreement. For example, a NH might have worked under the social security systems of Italy and Germany as well as the United States.

U.S. periods of coverage may be combined with coverage from only one foreign country to determine entitlement to a U.S. Totalization benefit.
