As you requested, we have changed your mailing address in our records. Please review
the updated address. Let us know if any information is missing or if you move again.
If you receive your check by mail, it may arrive later than scheduled due to the distance
and special handling involved. If you receive benefits through direct deposit, we
will continue to send your payments to your financial institution.
What You Need To Do
Please complete (1) on the enclosed “Supplement to Claim of
Persons Outside the United States.” We need this so we can decide if we can still pay you benefits while you are outside
the United States. Please use the enclosed envelope to return the form to us.
Your benefits will be stopped if we do not receive the completed form within 60 days.
Your Benefits While You Are Outside the United States
Certain circumstances affect your benefits while you are outside the United States.
For example:
-
•
We may not be able to pay you benefits if you are not a U.S. citizen and are outside
the United States for more than 6 months.
-
•
If you are under full retirement age and work more than 45 hours in any month, you
may not be eligible to receive benefits, no matter how much you earn.
-
•
Unless you are a U.S. citizen or a resident of the United States, Canada, Egypt, Germany,
Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Romania, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom, we must
withhold a federal income tax from your benefits. If you are a citizen and a resident
of India, all or part of your benefits can be exempt from this federal income tax
if the benefits are based on federal, state, or local government employment. Let us
know if you change your address again because it may change your tax liability.
We have enclosed a booklet to give you more information about circumstances that may
affect your benefits while you are outside the United States. It also explains what
you must report to us and how to report. Please read the booklet carefully.
