You do not have to translate a foreign-language document if it falls in one of the categories listed below.
NOTE: If you question the relevancy of a document or record, resolve it by having the document or record translated.
English is one of the languages used. See entries on the Calendar Month Translations exhibit located in GN 00307.185.
If the certifying official adds additional comments or remarks to the document, send it to an authorized translator for translation because the information may be material.
No translation is needed if all entries are only “yes,” “no,” or numbers, (e.g., Puerto Rican Spanish-language tax return, etc.).
We do not require another translation when translated by:
certain Veterans Administration (VA) offices in the Philippines;
certain U.S. Foreign Service Officers and U.S. Military (outside the U.S.); or,
an official of a foreign government using their seal of office.
