GN 00301.395 Verbatim translations

A. Definition of verbatim translation

Verbatim translation is a complete and literal translation of the foreign language document.

B. Policy

1. General

A verbatim translation is always required if a document is:

  1. a. 

    Translated by a non-SSA translator;

  2. b. 

    Needed as evidence in a prosecution;

  3. c. 

    A negative certification (GN 00301.445B.6.);

  4. d. 

    Medical evidence of disability;

  5. e. 

    From the Cape Verde Islands (GN 00307.400);

  6. f. 

    From Lebanon (GN 00307.618); or

  7. g. 

    From Greece (see GN 00301.395B.2.c. and GN 00307.518).

2. Special rules

  1. a. 

    TPWU translators may do extract translations of documents GN 00301.395B.1.e., GN 00301.395B.1.f., and GN 00301.395B.1.g.

  2. b. 

    Translators in the FSP, Athens, may do extract translations of Greek documents.

  3. c. 

    Greek-language translators who are claims representative trainees or higher grade employees with claims training may prepare extract translations of Mitroon Arrenons which are issued by Nomarchies and Lixiarchika Vivlia (vital statistics records) (see GN 00307.519A. and GN 00307.519C.). All other Greek documents including religious records require a verbatim translation.
