GN 00903.300 Role of Regional Offices (ROs) for Information and Referral (I&R)

  • State and local government programs are usually not limited to one SSA district. The RO coordinates efforts to provide field offices (FOs) with information on State and local programs that interact with SSA programs. The RO establishes procedures to monitor and disseminate information dealing with legislative and procedural changes that affect SSA recipients and beneficiaries.

  • We delegated authority to External and Public Affairs Officers in the ROs to oversee I&R activities in the field and to monitor its effectiveness. In addition to the above, the officers encourage continued FO emphasis and improvements in the process.

  • In a similar manner, community resources sometimes cross over the boundaries serviced by an FO. The RO should coordinate efforts to have this type of information distributed to the Teleservice Centers (TSCs) and other FO districts that cover the particular resource.
