GN 02413.001 Authority and General Policy - Gifts to the Government

A. Policy Principle

SSA may accept unconditional gifts and bequests made to one or more of the trust funds.

B. Definitions

1. ACCEPTABLE GIFT

An acceptable gift must be unconditional, unsolicited, and may include:

  1. a. 

    Money (cash, checks, etc.), or

  2. b. 

    Monetary bequests, or

  3. c. 

    Returned or donated benefit checks.

2. UNACCEPTABLE GIFT

An unacceptable gift includes:

  1. a. 

    Nonmonetary gifts or bequests, or

  2. b. 

    Conditional gifts or bequests.

3. CONDITIONAL GIFT

A conditional gift is made with specific stipulation(s) for its use other than for deposit to an SSA trust fund.
