RS 01602.205 Survivor Claims Transferred to the Social Security Administration (SSA) from the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB)

When the RRB determines that SSA has jurisdiction of a survivor claim filed with the RRB, the RRB will send all claims material to the SSA processing Center (PC) with jurisdiction for the SSN involved.

Generally, we deem a RRB application as an application for title II benefits. If you cannot deem the RRB application as an application for title II benefits, secure and process a new SSA application with the current filing date. For more information on applications filed with the RRB or with SSAs, see RS 01601.230.
