DI 26010.030 Completing Item 19 (Claimant Not Disabled) on the SSA-831 for Blindness Cases

A. Procedure for Title II

  1. 1.

For a Disability Insurance Benefits (DIB) or freeze case:

    1. a.

Check block A when the individual’s insured status expires after the date of adjudication, and disability or blindness is not established through the date of the current determination; or

    2. b.

Check block B and enter the date the earnings requirement is last met when the individual is found not disabled or blind on or before the date the insured status is last met (date last insured (DLI)) and the DLI is before the date of the current determination.

  2. 2.

For a closed period case, check block A when the period of disability ends earlier than the 14th month before the month of filing.

NOTE: Enter the reasons for the closed period in the rationale of the DIB denial on the SSA-831 or on an SSA-4268. Include language in the personalized notice to the claimant for the finding that disability ceased and explain why an extension of the 14-month period for filing for a period of disability cannot be granted.

  3. 3.

For CDB over-age-55 cases, check block C.

B. Procedure for Title XVI

Check block A in all cases when disability or blindness is not established.
