GN 00205.060 Retirement, Survivor, Disability Insurance (RSDI) Applications for Railroad (RR) Service

A. Policy when number holder (NH) works for RR

The question about the NH's work in the RR industry on or after 01/01/37 allows us to determine whether RR compensation may be included in computing benefits. It also helps determine certification of benefits.

In death cases, the information helps determine whether Railroad Board (RRB) or Social Security Administration (SSA) has jurisdiction of the claim. This determination of jurisdiction depends on whether or not the NH had a current connection with the railroad industry at death. These questions are part of the ADDB screen on MCS claims and propagate to the NHRR screen.

B. Procedure when auxiliary or survivors claimant is near age 62 or older

If the claimant has a spouse with 120 or more months of RR service, or effective January 1, 2002, has less than 120 months of RR service but has at least 60 months of RR service after December 31, 1995, get the spouse's Social Security Number (SSN) for certification purposes. These questions are part of the ADDB screen on MCS claims and propagate to the CLRR screen.
