A. Process

Divorce and marriage records are available from the Clerk of the Circuit Court in the county where the divorce was granted. The cost varies. Marriage records are available from the Judge of the Probate Court in the county where the license was issued. The cost varies. Field office employees can certify records in all counties.

The FO should write directly to BVS for all records. The fee is $15.00 each and $6.00 for each additional copy; use SSA-L706 to request. Make check payable to Alabama State Board of Health. Send requests for expedited search by overnight express mail service and add $15.00 to fee.

Can FO verify, certify, or obtain free copy death record? No. Decatur General Hospital will not issue certified hospital birth records beginning March, 1997.
