A. Process

This section provides an explanation of how the system determines that the SSA-7014A response is required when identifying information provided by the requester does not match SSA records.

Successful Matching provided on the request.

1. Matching against numident record

All records that fail to match against the MEF are automatically passed to a subsequent process that matches against the Numident record.

2. Unsuccessful matching

If the records also fail to match to the Numident record, we will send a SSA-7014A Letter to the requester to obtain correct SSN or identifying information.

B. List of conditions

The system will generate a SSA-7014A response whenever one of the following conditions exist on a request:

  • The name, date of birth and/or sex has been incorrectly keyed, and the information keyed does not match the Numident record for the SSN involved;

  • The name and/or date of birth provided is incorrect and does not match the information established on the Numident record for the SSN involved;

  • The name, date of birth and/or sex provided is correct, but the Numident record has not been updated to reflect a recent name/date of birth correction;

  • The name, date of birth and/or sex provided has recently been changed, but the requester has failed to report the change; therefore, the information provided does not match the information established on the Numident record;

  • The SSN provided is impossible or void, and no information has been established on the Numident record for the number involved; or

  • SSA records are incorrect and we have matched against incorrect information.
