Domestic service which includes allegations of employment in a private home, local college club, or local chapter of a fraternity or sorority where the alleged employment occurred prior to 1955, or, cash pay was less than that which constitutes a quarter of coverage.
Family employment which includes all allegations of employment by a spouse, and employment performed by a child while under the age of 21 for his /her father and/or mother.
Agricultural employment for periods before 1951 which includes caring for and management of livestock, bees, poultry, fur-bearing animals and wildlife, and work in the fields, greenhouses, hatcheries, ranches, orchards, etc., and work in connection with maintenance of equipment on a farm and salvaging timber and debris left by a hurricane, work in cotton gins, and turpentine and crude gum.
Employment any part of which occurred outside of the United States prior to 1951. “United States” means the States, Alaska, Hawaii and the District of Columbia. After 1950, the United States means the foregoing plus the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. After 1960, the United States means the foregoing plus Guam and American Samoa.
Employment with the United States Government or Instrumentality which includes Army officers' messes, officers' clubs, Army post exchanges, etc.
Employment with a foreign government or instrumentality or employment with an international organization
Employment with a non-profit, religious, charitable or educational organization prior to 1984 which includes churches, labor organizations, political organizations, and organizations such as the Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Goodwill Industry, Salvation Army, YMCA,YWCA, YMHA, YWHA, etc.
NOTE: Have cases involving this type of employment reviewed by a coverage technician even if a Form W-2 showing FICA wages is included with the case.
Employment at a school or hospital by a student, a student nurse, or a hospital intern.
Employment or self-employment as a minister, missionary, or member of a religious order prior to 1968.
Employment as a school bus driver.
Employment with a communist organization.
NOTE: Anytime a coverage issue is suspected, the case should be reviewed by a coverage technician. The coverage technician will decide whether to process the case per applicable procedures or return it to an ECT with a note that there is no coverage problem.
