GN 01724.012 How the Totalization Modules Process Claims for French Benefits Filed with a French Agency by U.S. Residents

A. Policy

The French agencies require that any claim for French benefits be filed in the claimant's country of residence. Sometimes, U.S. residents file a claim for French benefits while visiting in France. These claimants must still file for French benefits through SSA when they return to the U.S. France may notify DIO of these claimants or the claimant may contact DIO themselves.

B. Procedure

Obtain Form SSA-2490-F4. Include instructions to provide a complete French work history. Include a return envelope.

If the claimant needs additional help or also wishes to file for U.S. benefits, suggest they contact their nearest FO.
