A. Process

When Luxembourg centralized their coverage records in 1970, everyone was assigned a “registration number”. Since then, a registration number is assigned when an individual starts working.

If someone files for Luxembourg benefits and doesn't have a registration number, Luxembourg assigns a number.

B. Description of the Luxembourg registration number

The Luxembourg registration number consists of 11 digits which are assigned as follows:

  • Digits 1-4 represent the year of birth;

  • Digits 5-6, month of birth;

  • Digits 7-8, day of birth; and

  • Digits 9-11 are a control number that is assigned to identify persons born on the same day.
