A. Introduction to the U.S.-Hungary Totalization Agreement

The Social Security agreement between the United States and Hungary:

  • permits workers (and their dependents and survivors) to qualify for partial U.S. or Hungarian benefits, even if they do not meet the normal insured status requirements.

B. Purpose of the U.S.-Hungary Totalization Agreement

This subchapter provides:

  • a brief overview of the Hungarian system;

  • eligibility requirements for Hungarian benefits; and

  • an explanation of the provisions of the agreement.

For more information on the Hungarian social security system and how to issue a certificate of coverage under the agreement, see sections RS 02002.320 through RS 02002.380. Also, click here to visit the International Programs webpage.
